We hold the global brand standard, and design for Indian conditions.

We design stores, and we write the standards other people build them from.

A manual has to hold one brand across a dozen shells that share nothing but a logo, so it has to say what must never change, what may adapt to the site, and exactly how far. That is a different discipline from designing one good store, and it is the one we practise.

The difficulty belongs on paper, not on site. When the drawing has already answered the junctions, the services and the sequence, with the programme understood before anyone mobilises, building it stops being the hard part.

Nothing in the second photograph was decided on site. The ceiling strategy, the service routes and the joinery setting-out were fixed before mobilisation, because in a mall the only working window is between 10pm and 7am and there is no second attempt.

05 · How we think

Commercial space keeps changing. So does the way we think about it.

How people shop, pay and collect has moved further in five years than in the twenty before. We follow that closely, and we let it revise how we design rather than carrying a house style forward from the last project.

The thinking is the same size whatever the job is. A four hundred square foot kiosk gets the attention a flagship gets, because it is somebody's whole store.

Our thinking →

  • 01What works in London does not automatically work in Coimbatore.
  • 02A store now confirms a decision more often than it starts one.
  • 03We would rather revise our thinking than repeat ourselves.

Send us the shell and the date.

Those two things are enough for us to say whether the date is achievable and what it costs. Everything else can follow.
